Error for Groups of of type="radio" or "checkbox"?

Postby Gamecock » Wed Oct 06, 2010 6:18 pm

In a recent upgrade I have this error popping up...

Groups of related input elements of type="radio" or type="checkbox" with the same "name" attribute ("sitesearch") should be contained in a "fieldset" element to group them semantically [A, 1.3.1, 3.3.2]. Visit http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG20-TECHS/H71 for more information.

This accessibility error comes from third party code (Google Adsense for Search) we are supposed to leave unedited. I don't want to mess with Google's code and would rather not adjust for it in a custom way. This routine might find something else I need to also be informed of.

Once downgraded, some of us users will often tend to ignore typical messages and comments. :D

I want to fix this exact same issue on a number of my sites. Adsense for Search doesn't bring in much $, but it sure adds up.

Thanks for any advice!

Hello Bob,

If you don't want to change the HTML, then disabling that message via exact text match may be best (available in v10 when you right-click on the message in the Results Window), then only that exact message will be disabled; that is, the message will have to have ("sitesearch") in the message or it won't be disabled. That way, the check is still there for other values of the "name" attribute.

That sounds like a solution. :)

Maybe making an exception for "sitesearch" out to be the default for CSE? After all, that's Google code they don't want us to mess with?

Just a suggestion...

Thanks for the help!
