[Solved] 'Target=' Error Message (HTML Validator v10.01

Postby paulp575 » Sun Mar 20, 2011 11:45 pm

HTML Validator is displaying the following error:

Code: Select all
The value of the "target" attribute should be a string that does not begin with an underscore character (_) or be one of the following reserved keyword: "_blank", "_parent", "_self", or "_top".

It was triggered by 'target="_blank"' in the a href link.

Seems like this needs a better explanation because my HTML code was valid.

Thanks,

Hello,

I'm sorry for the trouble. That message shouldn't be triggered with "_blank". Can you send me (to support at htmlvalidator . com) or post a sample document that reproduces the problem?

Thank you.

Oops, my bad!

I just went back and revalidated the file.
There was a wayward : inside the 'target="_blank"' that was triggering the error.

Sorry for raising the issue.
It was a long day of writing HTML files.
