Incorrect "Missing quotation mark detected"

Postby PeterB » Fri Jul 01, 2011 4:12 am

When validating the attached I get "Missing quotation mark detected here or near here. If this message is incorrect, then turn off 'Try to recover from mismatched or missing quotes' in the Miscellaneous page of the Validator Engine Options." on line 165.
The line contains (I'm pretty sure!) correctly-encoded HTML in a TABLE element's TITLE tag.

Though I can turn off the option the message shows, cleary HTMLV is getting its parsing wrong.

I am using 10.0211

Hello,

I'm sorry for the delay.

Yes, sometimes the parser can think there should be a quotation mark somewhere when there shouldn't be. It depends on what the parser is seeing in its "limited view" of scope. As you know, this can be turned off when it is more of a problem than it is helpful.

Another solution, besides turning this feature off completely, would be to encode some spaces at " " instead... like instead of "div style=", use "div style=".

In the future, the parser may be improved to better avoid false detections.
