Pro Version Vanishes From Desktop Seconds After Starting It.

Postby billkruse » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:43 am

Yup, I click on the icon to open CSE HTML Validator Pro and it appears on the desktop, the hint window appears, then the check for update window appears then within a split second the whole application vanishes. It stops running.

I'm running XP Pro SP3. This is the first time I've seen this happening. so far as I know I'm using the latest version of Validator. That or near to it. It looks like 10.12.1. I haven't used it for a month or two maybe but I update it whenever I use it so it's close to being the latest version.

Anyone got any ideas please?

Many thanks,

Hello,

I'm sorry for the trouble..

Usually this is caused by anti-virus or anti-malware software interfering. Please see:
https://www.htmlvalidator.com/CSEForum/ ... 5309#p5309

I hope this helps.

I am actually using Microsoft Security Essentials. I'm not keen on the idea of turning it off either :-) I'll see what I can do to exclude the folder.

Are you using any other anti-malware software? I wouldn't think MSE would cause a problem as I don't think I've ever encountered it causing an issue with CSE HTML Validator.

You have now. I turned it off and Validator works fine.

Thanks for your help.

You're welcome & thanks for letting me know. I've updated the page with the info about MSE. I suspect it is because you are using Windows XP and the Windows XP version of MSE is significantly different from the Vista/Windows 7 version, which I haven't heard any problems with.

It's doing it again, vanishes from the desktop after a few seconds. This is with the virus protection on or off, makes no difference now.

Bloody annoying!

Yes, I can see how that is annoying! :(

What background programs are you running? Also, do you have another computer you could try CSE HTML Validator on to see if it does the same thing?

I'm running multiple background programs. You want me to turn them off one by one? I could I suppose. I have other computers but the one I need Validator on is this one.

I would try that and see what happens. Are you using Windows XP 32-bit or 64-bit? If 64-bit, I wonder if that could be related to the problem.

Also, if you'd like, you could try a v11 BETA build... if so, then please email me at support at htmlvalidator dot com and I'll try to get one to you sometime next week.

Experiencing this same issue after upgrading - this is on a win2k server, and the install directory is excluded from McAfee.

32-bit. Haven't had time to try excluding programs yet.

OK it's a program called Invisible Browsing. If I turn it off everything's fine, turn it back on, kablooie.

Thanks! So it wasn't Microsoft Security Essentials?
