Strange. I haven't had any other complaints about this with the most recent version. What security & anti-malware software are you running? Are you running any background process monitors or other programs that might be "watching"? Have you tried it on another computer to see if the same thing happens?

I've got Essentials running. Turning it off makes no difference. I don't have another machine handy to try it on but that's not the point, this is my work machine so it needs to work on here. I have Malwarebytes and Spybot, neither are running in the background and all three can only find Snadboys Revelation and tinyPE (part of PHP I believe, personal environment) when they scan. I'm stumped.

I'm stumped too. Are you willing to try to completely uninstall Spybot to see if that helps? That would be my first guess given the info I have now.

It's working fine this morning. My machine's been running all night, as it usually does, and sitting down to it I tried the program and it's working fine, even staying alive in the background. Odd, no? Let's see how it gets on for the rest of the day.

Got it going. I find I have to check for an updated version every time. I get the response back from the server and after that it runs as normal. If I don't make the check, it winks out after a few seconds or sometimes a bit longer. Weird huh?

Here's something interesting. I can make the program stable by clicking on checking for updates, then clicking OK when the 'You are using the latest version' sign appears. After that it's fine. However, if I check for the update again, the program goes off completely. So what does that tell us?

Something very strange is going on is what it tells me. :D

I can do many update checks without any problems.

Does anyone else here have this problem?

My primary thought is that it has to have something to do with something interfering with CSE HTML Validator. I can't think of any other reason right now. Do any of your other programs act strangely? If so, I wonder if it could be bad RAM or some other hardware issue causing some type of corruption (I suppose that would be my 'secondary' guess).

Nope, only Malwarebytes which refused to update for a few months. I got round that using their chameleon software. It's fine now and everything else runs ok so I wouldn't think it's dodgy ram either.
