HTML Validator under CrossOver (Wine) on Mac

I am trying to understand why I can't get the check for upgrades to work but the regular website lookup and validation works. So I know I have connectivity to the internet. Is there any service that is needed that would need to be installed to support the check for upgrades feature?

Thanks,
Rob

Hi Rob,

The first thing that comes to mind is that something is blocking CSE HTML Validator from the Internet. Can you use the File->Open from the Web option?

Albert -

File| Open from the web works fine. That is what is confusing to me. Not sure what is happening that this check fails.

I tried turning off the OS X firewall, that did not make a difference.

Rob,

Interesting... can you open an https link too? CSE HTML Validator uses https for the update check.

Yes, https:// seems to have a problem in resolving. It starts, but just stalls out and I ended up cancelling the request. He is what is displayed in the window. Is there anything I would need to add to enable secure https connections?

I tried opening from web a https site a couple more times and it does load every third time. Not sure why it isn't successful everytime. I do see it trying on the unsuccessful times, just waiting with no response. Is it possible to have the check for update retry on timeout rather than just showing an error?

I did try the check for new version function again today. Out of ten times, it worked twice. I don't really know the conditions in which this succeeds or fails. It seems to do with the https as you had pointed out.

I'm glad it seems to be narrowed down to HTTPS, which uses functions and some additional DLLs that HTTP doesn't. I suspect there is a compatibility problem with CrossOver/Wine and these DLL functions for HTTPS. I would recommend submitting this to the CrossOver/Wine developers as a compatibility problem that hopefully they will be able to address.

You can always go to the download page to see what the latest versions are -
