I'll try it. Hope it runs Javascript, so that my AJAX code keeps working.

Still, it's not a very convenient solution. Along with the HTML validation, I also use Firebug, which is an excellent HTML / JS debug extension.

I don't know how your outsourcing history went, but I would estimate development cost for such an extension at around $600.

I was investigating something else and it occurred to me that there are some current and maybe forthcoming technologies that might help.

If anybody has explored these already (or does in future) I'd appreciate some feedback.

A solid available technology that is very programmable, is the Fiddler2 debugging proxy for Windows machines. This can intercept all HTML activity on your machine. Besides showing you exactly what is going on it can be extensively programmed. There are two programming models. Javascript code, it comes with it's own editor too. (An example is it can be made to display Time-To-Last-Byte (TTLB) or TTFB etc. within it's own interface at the cost of a single line of code.) The other interface uses .NET assemblies so can do a lot.

Has anybody used Fiddler2 with CSE?

Mozilla has something called Ubiquity which gives a way to add capabilities to the browser. It seems that this might be a very easy programming interface, much easier than making an add-on. I haven't used it so can't be sure. It's here now, but in Beta (0.1).

Has anybody used Ubiquity?

Google Chrome introduces something called Gears. I know even less about this and don't intend to look soon. Anybody...?

Other ideas about ways to integrate CSE with the browser?
