RFE: add “Edit with Topstyle” to the context menu during ins

Postby marcb » Fri Nov 30, 2012 7:58 am

I just installed Topstyle 5. Before doing so, I had completely uninstalled Topstyle 4. After the installation of Topstyle 5, I had to discover that I no longer had a “Edit with Topstyle” entry in the context menu (when you right click on an htm or html file in a folder).

I am unsure whether such entry was really created by the installer previously. I might have added it manually, so I don’t know whether this is a bug. Anyway, such entry is really needed. I never use the internal file explorer panel of Topstyle since its functionality and user interface is too limited. The content of my website is spread over a large number of folders and I always use an external explorer to navigate to the files that I need (I use a freeware tool, CubicExplorer, that supports tabs so that you can easily jump from one folder to another).

So, not having such “Edit with Topstyle” entry, your alternative is to use the “Open with” dialogue and then selecting Topstyle from the drop-down menu. This is already cumbersome but even worse, this option is not available when you want to open multiple files at once.

Previously, with Windows XP, there was a panel that allowed you to create such extra entries in the context menu. However, since Vista/W7 that is no longer possible and your only option is the Registry Editor, which I did. So, my problem is currently solved. However, I fear that there are many users who don’t like the idea of messing around with the Registry Editor, so I think it would be better to have this in the installer or as an option in the installer.
