Missing things in TS4

Postby chris_bcn » Sat Aug 01, 2009 1:47 pm

So pleased that topstyle is alive and well and cared for.

I have to add +1 on the selecting and dragging text - workflow wise cutting and pasting is an obstacle - It's a surprising omission for me.

Also, when I type <div></div> and then add a class/id to the div, whitespace is added so I end up with <div class="" ></div> - this is really annoying - is it a bug or a feature?

Is there any chance of code collapsing - this was the one thing that I always wanted in TS3 and I really hoped it would be in TS4 - How come I can collapse comments but not code?

What is the thinking on not having all the line numbers?

All in all, as I say, really happy that Topstyle is alive and well and will be updated etc. but I think I'll go back to TS3. TS4 doesn't have anything extra that I need with some added annoyance.

Looking forward to seeing how TS develops and I'll keep an eye on when I can start using it - or use my Mac and Coda or Espresso

I cannot seem to reproduce this. Can you send me reproducible steps please?

Code does collapse (such as JavaScript compound statements, for example).

It's a preference. If you would like to see all the numbers, you can do so via Options (F8) > Editor > Display line number interval.

Thanks, Stefan.

Cool- cheers for the reply.

Just type in <div> and let it complete to <div></div>. Then type in class=" - the other " will autocomplete and will create whitespace. This doesn't happen if you hit enter after the tooltip appears - only if you type. It is odd but it is there.

With code collapsing - what I want to do is select X amount of HTML and collapse that. I often work with hugely long HTML files and it is unweidly if I can't collapse the code - makes it difficult to find where divs end for example. Espresso for MAc will highlight where divs end and you can collapse at those points. Very useful

Fixed in 4.0.0.64.

Thanks, Stefan.

Great - thanks. Very nice customer service there - impressive.

What about the code collapsing question - is that on the roadmap at all? Or am I totally missing how you can collapse sections of HTML - Dreamweaver has the best implemntatin for me - hightlight a bunch of markup - click the icon to collapse it

We're planning HTML tag folding in a future release.

I 'second the motion' to include HTML folding ASAP. I work with files of 4 - 5 thousand lines, and find folding to be one of the most useful assets of UltraEdit. Great for debugging those pesky <div> problems in complex code.

If you've got a Mac, forget TS4. I used it for years when I used Windows, but when I switched to a Mac I switched to CSSEdit and Dreamweaver. I've never looked back. If the TS4 people can't be bothered to produce a Mac version, to Arizona with them.

TopStyle is a Windows-only product. Always has been. Always will be.

I'm a Mac user myself, and am running TopStyle inside Parallels. Works like a charm.

I'm not planning to go to Arizona anytime soon, but thank you for your colorful language :D
