CSE HTML Validator v8.0 now in development

Postby Albert Wiersch » Wed Feb 15, 2006 12:59 pm

CSE HTML Validator v8.0 has been in development a few weeks now. I have a good sized list of possible additions and features to work on. This is plenty of work! I will get as many of the best ones in as I can. However, I would like to know if anyone has any wishes for v8.0. I can add any wishes to my feature list if it is not already there. Furthermore, any comments and suggestions will also help me prioritize what to work on. So, if you have any, please post your wishes, comments, and recommendations for v8.0 here.

CSE HTML Validator v8.00 BETA 1 will probably be released in a few months. As usual, the BETA testing will be opened only to registered v7.0x professional users. If you want to be informed about BETA released, be sure to join our BETA release mailing list:

Hi Albert,

How about being able to split the bad links report into 2 files like
- batchreport-int.html for reporting the internal bad links
- batchreport-ext.html for reporting the external bad links
This might be more practical with the batch wizard ...

Currently, to make sure we do not have any internal bad links, the whole report needs to be scanned for the internal links.

Hi Daniel,

There is a Batch Wizard option in the Target List Options tab called Do not check links matching these strings. I am wondering if an additional option to check only links that match a certain pattern would address your issue... so you could have it check only links that have "domain.com" in them if you wanted to only check internal links. Would this be useful? This is something that could easily be added.

Good idea Albert.

That would work for me.

Thanks.

Great. I think it is a good additional option that isn't difficult to implement and that others will use as well. I'll try to get to it for the final release of v8.0.

Great. I've just finished adding an option to the Batch Wizard that lets someone specify what links they want to limit the link checking to. This would let someone limit link checking to specific domains and/or folders/directories, or limit link checking to links with certain strings in them. This will be available in CSE HTML Validator Professional v8.00 BETA 1.

Hi,

Some requests for version 8:

1) checking HTML combined with CSS (so not only separate HTML and separate CSS), f.e.: a CSS tag in HTML should be available in CSS

2) checking Javascript

3) regular expressions also for target of replace, f.e.: it would be great if I could replace two hard returns by one hard return

4) better support for international characters (remember the copying from Excel problem that I once posted)

5) when you doubleclick on a tag, you automatically go to the corresponding opening/closing tag

6) structure window INSIDE main window instead of this hardly useful separate window (see 5)

7) better support for Windows/Word like key combinations (f.e. CTRL+DELETE deletes only next word, not rest of line)

8) ranges like in Visual Studio, where you can collapse parts of files with a + sign, or change the background color of ranges (like a table in different colors inside another table)

9) intuitive table editor instead of hand work <table><tr><td>

HTMLValidator is great. With all these possible new features make sure it stays fast and "lightweight".

Thanks,

Ron

Everyone uses the tool in different ways creating differnet priorities; bet we all agree with size and speed though!

Albert I know I'm probably too later with this suggestion since you're well into developing V8, but this thought just occurred to me. I did a quick scan of the other requests and didn't see this mentioned (however bear in mind I'm a married man so I'm used to not seeing the obvious lol). Also I apologize for the bother if this is currently available but if so I wasn't able to find it.

Firefox, NoteTab, and a few other programs that also use document tabs, optionally allow the closing of a tab with a middle mouse click. This would be handy for me when I have a number of documents opened at once in the Validator and am ready to close one or more of them.

I appreciate your consideration,

John

Thanks all,

I am hoping to improve the tab situation in the editor before the final release of v8.0, probably near the end of this year (4th quarter), but BETAs will be available before then.

I don't plan to spend a great deal of time improving the editor, but I will definitely spend some time doing it.

Hi John,

In CSE HTML Validator v8.00 BETA (not yet available), you will now be able to close documents with a middle mouse click on the tab. I was able to recently add this feature, as well as moveable tabs. I hope to have the first BETA version out within a few weeks.
