(fuller) Regular expression support?

Postby Alec_Burgess » Fri Aug 10, 2007 2:59 am

I just got CSE HTML Validator 8.04 Standard

One of the first things I looked as was the regular expression support. The help for regular expressions says it does NOT support regexps in replacements. (not to mention other good things like back references and lookarounds.

Googling your site I found a reference in for V6 that said the same thing - no support for regexps in replacements but it added the comment that it was coming "real soon now". Does the removal of that comment from v8 help indicate that its forever off your radar or is will it be included in a forthcoming version?

Hello Alec,

Thanks for the suggestion. We use a third party component for the editor. I do wish to update the editor when I find something that would be better, meet our requirements, and will work with our development environment. Hopefully it will better support regular expressions. Unfortunately I do not know when this will be, but upgrading the editor is definitely on our "to-do" list for a future version.

Albert - for what its worth Eric Fookes (author Notetab) upgraded its 3rd party regular expression engine to DIregex http://www.yunqa.de/delphi/regex/

Full PCRE support now - works like a charm (and from what I gather wasn't hard to do)

Thanks Alec, I will make a note of that. There are some places in CSE HTML Validator where I'd like to support regular expressions and that may come in useful.

Unfortunately, I don't plan on putting more effort into the current editor component as I didn't write it and I want to eventually replace it with something better anyway.
