You're using the latest version.... not

Hi Albert.

Saw your "release available" email come in, fired off CSE and noticed it said I was using the latest version. I clicked on "check for updates" and sure enough, now it showed an update was available.

I closed and reopened CSE, but no notice about an update. Maybe it does that once a day? I'm not going to update. Will see what it says later and also check at work tomorrow.

FWIW, I always thought it odd that it would tell me I was using the latest version in the lower, right corner, then occasionally ask me if I wanted to check for an update. I'm guessing the auto check is tied to a preference, yet the other check ignores this setting.

There's a couple of update check systems.

There's a "quick one" that you see in the lower right and the status bar. I haven't yet updated that for the new release. I want to wait and make sure no unexpected problems appear before I start advertising the new release at "full speed". The "quick" update check also cannot be disabled except through a registry change. This is because it's designed to be unobtrusive and not require any user interaction. It only shows the messages and will never interrupt your work and prompt you with a question. It will check every day by default. I should probably change that to a little less often now that I think about it. UPDATE: I will change the default to every 7 days for new installs.

The "regular update check" that asks you a question can be disabled in the GUI. This one is "more sophisticated" and has been programmed to know about the new version. :D

Fired off CSE at work today, got a new version notification right off and upgraded. Worked as I'd expect.
