Address already in use (Error #10048)

Postby Daniel Lacroix » Fri Apr 29, 2005 11:09 am

Hi Albert,

I am now trying out v7.00 beta 4 and finding it pretty fast. Validation is more than twice as fast and the link checks is a bit faster.

Using the batch wizard, I am getting a few of the following Error: Address already in use (Error #10048) while doing link checks (using -b7). Most occurs while checking for the jpg, pdf, ppt links. I repeated a few times the same batch file and I am getting a different # of these errors in the reports. Which means the reporting of these errors are not consistent.

Would you have any idea what could cause it?

Daniel.

Hi Daniel,

Sorry, I haven't seen that or had other reports about it. I don't know what would cause that. It could be an issue with the updated component I'm using for link checking. I've posted a message to the relevent support group to see if anyone has any ideas.

If you can find a way to reproduce it consistently, then please let me know. I'd like to reproduce it here if possible.

Also, if anyone else has seen this issue, then please let me know.

I tried to replicate this problem on my home pc, and these errors on the link checks are not showing up.

I am presuming their must be something on my networked office PC that does it!

I will keep you posted.

Thanks.

Daniel

Thank you. Please keep me posted!

This is what the developer of the component said:

"Strange: error 10048 normally occurs when listening on a given port.
Error 10048 occurs when you try to reuse a port that is already in use.
Maybe your user is launching your program twice ?
Also, have a look at this article:

Albert,

By increasing the MaxUserPort registry key to 20,000 as specified in the article, I no longer get the #10048 error.

Thanks.

Daniel.
