Offline Pages Incorrect Case Link status error

Postby John Zeman » Tue Feb 23, 2010 2:39 pm

I don't know if this is a bug in the beta, or whether it's been happening all along but I just noticed if I validate an offline html document, that all of my offline links (such as to a CSS file, images, bookmarks, etc) return a Links Status error of "Incorrect Case". All of my links are lowercase and exactly match the text case of the destination file. However when I upload the file and validate it online, then all links validate normally.

Am I missing something?

Hi John,

It might have something to do with the path.

I'd need to know more details to investigate. I'd need to know the full paths and the computed full paths and the case that the full path is using in your file system. Perhaps you opened a file with a path that didn't match the exact case that is used in the file system. You may want to try opening the file again, making sure that the case matches the "official" case of the path in the file system.

Also, you can turn off case sensitive link checking in the Link Checking page of the Validator Engine Options if you want.

By the way, case sensitive link checking is only available for local file and directory links, so you won't see "Incorrect Case" when checking HTTP links because it will just fail with a 404 if the case is incorrect on a case sensitive server or it will pass if the case doesn't matter (like on a Windows HTTP server).

Right you are Albert, with your help I just solved the mystery.

If I open the page from CSE then the links validate as I'd expect them to. However I do all my html coding in NoteTab Pro and then with a NoteTab clip I'll send the file I'm working on to CSE for validation. And it seems the NoteTab token "^**" for sending the current file to another application such as CSE, sends that file name in all lowercase characters regardless of what text case the full file name might actually be in.

Now that I understand what's going on I can correct the problem on my end.

Many thanks. :)
