Beta shutdown

Postby roedygr » Wed Feb 24, 2010 4:28 am

Beta still has problems shutting down. It leaves this dialog up which cannot be killed without the Task Manager and a multiple stab wounds.

Thanks. I'm aware of this issue but am still not sure what is causing it. :(

I am keeping an eye out for it.

By the way, if you can figure out a way to reproduce it on a consistent basis, then please let me know!

I've always thought it was from shutting down before it had a chance to display a dialog (like file had changed... reload?)

I had a shutdown issue today, first in a long time. I hadn't used CSE for several hours, had maybe 6 tabs open, some were from IE so source might not exist anymore and very possibly files had changed outside CSE.

The blank error message on shutdown is still happening in beta 2D.

Thanks. I have still not been able to locate that issue. It is hard to reproduce. Can you reproduce it on a consistent basis? If so, then please let me know how. If I can reproduce it, then there's a much better chance that I can find and fix the problem. If you can easily reproduce it but I can't, then I can send you a special build that can generate some log files that should be helpful.

One way to reproduce it would be to use the replicator at http://mindprod.com/webstart/replicator.html
to download a local copy of my website, then do a do a batch validate and shut down as soon as it completes. I suspect the problem is files with lots of external links. I want to shut down before it completes checking them all.

So when you do this, you can consistently (always or almost always) reproduce the problem?

I would like to do further research on this issue. It sometimes happens here, but I have difficulty reproducing it. If you would like to help me try to fix this issue, then please let me know and I will send you a link to a special debug build that will create a type of log file that will help me narrow down where the problem is occurring.

I think this crash-on-shutdown issue may finally be resolved in v9.9927 and later. I haven't had any reports of this problem recurring with v9.9927 or later from a few people who were helping me with this issue. If anyone does encounter this issue again with v9.9927 or later, then please let me know.

Access Violation

Postby DavidHyde » Fri Apr 02, 2010 11:43 pm

Running on Vista, after exiting I got a stream of

Access violation at address 601A1670. Read of address 601A1670.

Task manager is required to break out of this loop.

Not sure what caused this the first time; haven't repeated it since.

Thanks David. Looks like this issue isn't addressed after all. This is a hard one to find since it can't be easily duplicated. :(

I wonder if it is a component I'm using.

Can you throw in some debug code? At shutdown it starts dumping info to a log file.

Beta 10 crash

Postby jcyr » Sat Apr 03, 2010 1:54 pm

Hi Albert,

All went well with beta 10 till I tried to exit the application. Then I got the attached crash dialog and had to resort to a task manager kill to get rid of it.

I tried some debug code and based on that, it seems to be crashing on the VCL or other exit code... I can only suspect some type of memory corruption from something, but I'm finding this very hard to nail down. I thought I had fixed it but it must not have been the cause. :(

I have already reported this issue before, but since it seems a hard one to solve, some additional stuff that might perhaps help.
I am now running the latest beta on W7, but the problem is not linked to the OS since I already experienced the problem on XP with the latest official CSE release.
In my case, the problem always happens when closing CSE after a batch validation. I close the batch wizard window and then, the main program, and the problem appears. However, t does not appear always.
So, without having exact figures on this, I have the impression that the problem happens after making changes to the code. In my case, since I have a PHP site, I do not use the CSE editor. Instead, I am using Topstyle to update the various pieces of code. While I make these changes with TS, CSE is still running, but not really used. Now, I know there is some linkage between the two products, so I was wondering whether the changes that are made via TS, or simply starting it while there is still a CSE session active, might cause some confusion?
Just guessing of course.
