Strange behaviour when changing spaces to tabs

Postby JWolters » Tue May 04, 2010 2:26 pm

Enable `View`-`Editor`-`Special symbols` to see tabs and spaces. Create a new file with content like this:
Code: Select all
    text after spaces
    text after spaces

Now select the spaces before the text and press `tab`, another space will be added instead of being replaced by a tab. Actually you can select anything in the first line and presssing tab will add a space character.
After doing this a few times placing a tab in the second line shows different behaviour if there is something selected or not. If there is no selection and the cursor position is before the text, the cursor position will be outlined (filled with spaces) equal to the first line; if there is a selection of space characters the text will be outlined to the first line.

Hello,

If there is any selected text, the editor performs an indent operation, indenting all the lines with selected text.

Indenting and unindenting based on the previous line can be enabled/disabled in the "Other Editor" page of the Editor Options (see the "Smart Indent/Unindent" option).

I think if you understand the above, then the editor behavior will make sense. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
