Using CSE HTML Validator from Firefox

Postby c24m48 » Fri Jun 17, 2005 6:05 pm

If you click on Links -> Recommended Resources, you will discover that Firefox is the recommended browser. "Firefox is an excellent web browser which we now use as our primary browser."

However, I end up using IE most of the time because I can invoke CSE HTML Validator to edit a Web page from IE but I can't figure out how to do so from Firefox. Is there a way?

Thanks,
Jerry Bryan

Hi Jerry,

I assume that you are talking about running a page through CSE HTML Validator by choosing View->Source in Internet Explorer. Currently, we do not provide a way to integrate CSE HTML Validator into Firefox but a Firefox extension to check pages with CSE HTML Validator is currently being worked on.

Invoking CSE HTML Validator from Firefox

Postby c24m48 » Sat Jun 18, 2005 12:17 am

Actually, with the way I use IE, it's File->Edit with CSE HTML Validator.

To make it work, you first have to establish the proper associations between HTML files and CSE HTML Validator. Then, in IE you do Tools->Internet Options->Programs tab->HTML Editor. CSE HTML Validator is one of the options because of the proper associations having been set up. I'm perfectly fine with View->Source being Notepad.

But the underlying principle is the same. I would like to use Firefox instead of (or in addition to) IE. I'm pleased that you are working on a way to be able to edit directly from Firefox.

Actually, the extension will only allow you to check a web page with CSE HTML Validator. It will show the source and the validator messages. It won't allow editing. That may be something that can be added later. I hope to have this extension available within a week. It is in the final stages of testing.
