CSE HTML Validator Pro v7.00 BETA 2 Available

Postby Albert Wiersch » Thu Mar 03, 2005 1:20 pm

CSE HTML Validator Pro v7.00 BETA 2 is now available to licensed v6.5x professional users. Please download it and provide feedback to help improve it before the final release. There should be a few more BETAs and months of development before v7.00 is released.

Your current v6.5x registration key WILL WORK with this BETA release, so you won't have to re-register the software if you already have a registered v6.5x pro version installed.

I recommend that you simply install v7.00 BETA in addition to any other CSE HTML Validator version/edition that you have already installed. Then you can always revert back if you have a problem. If you have a previous v7.00 BETA installed, then simply install the new v7.00 BETA over your current v7.00 BETA installation.

Here is the revision history for v7.00 BETA:

To download v7.00 BETA:
http://www.htmlvalidator.com/htmlval/ph ... rsionin=70

Hint: Load your current version and do an update check (Help->Check for New Program Version). This should open a browser window with your registration number and PIN number already filled out. Just select v7.00 BETA 2 and download.

If you need to upgrade to v6.5x pro, then you can do so here:

Feedback should be posted to the BETA Discussion forum. Please let me know what you think!

Good job Albert! I didn't realize you had so many new improvements in the works. I'm sure you're pleased to get so many "little" things done and I'll bet some of those were very time-consuming to do. Kudos to you!

Slight GUI Problem: Changing Horz Window Size

Postby Patzee » Sat Mar 05, 2005 5:13 pm

Hi! Glad to see this new version.

In IE6 XPpro --

There is no horizontal deliniation line for changing window size between bottom messages block and top files/html windows. There should be some sort of demarcation line over "Messages" "Grouped Messages" etc. to indicate where to place the cursor in order to resize the windows.

I have a capture gif if you need it.

Regards, Pat

Hi Pat,

By design, there isn't suppose to be a visible line there, but you should be able to change the window size by placing the cursor where the line would be (in the expected spot). The cursor should change appropriately when it is in the right spot for changing window sizes.

Yes, I can see your point of view, but I'd wish you would reconsider.

As an experienced user, it was very confusing and not at all clear how to change the window size or exactly where to place the cursor (or if it was even possible). I've been using CSE for several years, so I do know how it's done and it's instinctive for me since I've changed windows sizes countless times. But what about new users? Sometimes design must follow function and usability is the most imporant element in web design and software. Something as small as confusion about how to change a window size can prove very irritating to someone trying your product for the first time.

I'll let this subject rest and I'll keep testing, doing what I can to help.

Regards, Pat

Hi Pat,

Thank you. I will investigate this and see if it is possible to make it easier to resize the Results Window by making the splitter more visible without making it look too cluttered or using too much space. I'm mostly concerned about the additional screen space that would be needed. Even though it wouldn't be much, CSE is already packed with controls.
