Bizarre behaviour

Postby roedygr » Wed Jul 15, 2009 8:05 am

I shut down HTMLValidator 9.0302. but it kept running. Further it started spawning multiple copies of itself. It had about 5 instances going before I could kill it. It filled the screen with blank error dialog boxes, then when I clicked them, sometimes they would fill in with text.

I have attached a screen shot of part of the carnage.

I did a recently changed check, then edited two files that had errors. certificatewhere.html was not among them. It is a bit of a weird page. It tells you where you can download root certificates for various vendors. see http://mindprod.com/jgloss/rootcertificate.html that includes this html. Sometimes the Certificates for those pages themselves are unknown, expired etc.

That's strange. Can you reproduce this or was it a one-time occurrence? I haven't had any other reports of anything like this.

See the attached screen shot. I got this error message after doing a very long verify, after I shut down. I could not dismiss it.

I'm sorry for the trouble. I've now seen this issue myself, but only once. I do not know what causes it. Unfortunately v9.0x development has stopped so it is unlikely there will be a fix for this (seemingly) rare issue. Fortunately it only seems to happen on shutdown, and then only rarely.

If you can find a method to reproduce it however, then please let me know so I can make sure it doesn't exist in v10.

By the way, do you know if the integrated web browser was used during the sessions when this problem was encountered?
