Use the Batch Wizard Target Properties dialog box to view and/or change a Batch Wizard target's options and properties.
General Tab (for all targets)
Use this tab to view and/or change the target options that apply to all target types.
| • | Target - the actual file, folder, or URL target |
| • | Process this target - Check this box to process the target when the target list is processed, otherwise the target is ignored or "deactivated" during processing. |
| • | Never validate this target - Check this box to never validate the target. Other tools can be used on the target. This option doesn't make sense for URL targets because URL targets can only be validated. If you check this target for a URL target, then the target will never be processed with any tool. When this option is checked, the N flag is displayed. |
Folder Specific Tab (folder targets only)
Use this tab to view and/or change the target options that apply to folder targets.
| • | Include subfolders - Check this box to include targets that are within the subfolders of the folder target. Targets within all folders of the subfolders will also be processed. When this option is checked, the I flag is displayed. The default is determined by the Automatically set the I flag to include subfolders when adding a folder target option. |
| • | When including subfolders, exclude folders that begin with an underscore (_) or that are named "CVS" - Check this box to exclude any subfolders with names that begin with an underscore character or that are named "CVS" (case insensitive). Note that this option has no effect if Include subfolders is unchecked. This option is useful to exclude certain FrontPage and CVS folders. This option is enabled by default. |
URL Specific Tab (URL targets only)
Use this tab to view and/or change the target options that apply to URL targets.
| • | Agent - The agent to use when requesting the URL from the server. An agent normally identifies to the server what browser is being used, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, or Netscape. The agent is also used to check the links in the target when link checking is enabled. This is useful because some websites are designed to send back a different document depending on the agent being used. |
| • | Username - The username used to request the URL with, if needed. |
| • | Password - The password used to request the URL with, if needed. Note that passwords are not stored securely and that they may be stored in the registry or in the target list file. |
| • | Use username and password - Check this box to use a username and password when requesting the URL. Use this feature for password protected URLs. |
Notes
| • | The Username and Password fields are only used for HTTP or NTLM authentication. |
| • | If the Batch Wizard is following links and a parent URL target is set to use a username and password, then child links will be followed using the username and password of the parent link if the child link begins with the same domain and path of the parent link. If, for some reason, the domain and path do not match and the Batch Wizard is not using the username and password to fetch the child links as desired, then checking the Send usernames and passwords when only domains match option in the Link Checking Page of the Editor Options may correct the problem. |
Follow Links Tab
| • | Follow and validate links - Check this box to follow and validate the links in the target. Links that meet certain requirements (such as those specified by the limit to and extensions text) are automatically added to the target list being processed. This option has an effect only when validating, spell checking, or checking links. |
| • | Limit to - Links that do not start with the text in this box will not be validated or followed. Relative links are changed to absolute links before checking whether the link begins with the limit to text or not. |
| • | Extensions - A comma separated list of extensions that can be followed. Links that do not end in one of these extensions will not be checked, unless the link is a folder. If the link is a folder, then it is followed if it meets all the other requirements. |
| • | Depth limit - Set the depth to follow links to. This limits the number of links that are followed. Set to -1 for no depth limit. A limit of 0 is the same as not following any links. A limit of 1 will follow the links in the target, but will not follow the links in the followed links. |
Limit to Age (folder targets only)
| • | Limit to documents modified within this number of days (0 for no limit) - If this option is available for the target, then a number of days can be set to limit the age of the checked targets. Documents with a last write time less then or equal to the number of days specified here will be checked (assuming other checks are passed) while documents with a last write time of more will not. This can be a floating point number. For example, use .01 for about 15 minutes, .021 for 30 minutes, .042 for 1 hour, .083 for 2 hours, .167 for 4 hours, .333 for 8 hours, .5 for 12 hours, or 1.5 for one and a half days (36 hours). This is useful for only checking recently modified documents. To not limit by days, use 0. The default is 0. (New v9.00) |
