Editor 1 Tab

This is where you can change general and miscellaneous options that affect HTML Validator's integrated editor component.

Text Edit Options

Right margin - Set this option to the number of characters where you would like the vertical right margin line drawn. This will help you keep your lines a certain length by providing a visual indicator of how long your lines are. NOTE: For the right margin line to appear and to be visible, you must also have the right margin line turned on. The default is 80 characters.
Tab stops - This is a comma separated list of tab stop columns. Pressing the TAB key will place the cursor at the column of the next tab stop. The default is "3,6,9,12". Pressing tab past the last tab stop specified will place the cursor at column locations that are multiples of 3 (this is calculated from the difference between the last two tab stops, in this case, 12-9).

Font and Background Color

Press the Choose Font button to change the font that is used in the editor. You can only select monospaced fonts. Monospaced fonts are fonts where all characters are of equal width. This is different from proportional fonts, where each character in a font may be of a different width. Proportional fonts cannot be used by CSE HTML Validator.
Press the Font Color button to change the editor font's color. Note that changing the color has an effect only if syntax highlighting is disabled or not available for the file type being edited. The default is navy. (New v4.50)
Press the Background Color button to change the editor's background color. The default is white. (New v4.01)
Press the Line Number Color button to change the color that line numbers are displayed with (if line numbers are visible). The default is black. (New v4.50)
Enable bold and italic font styles even if it increases character spacing - Check this box to enable the bold and italic font styles even if enabling these styles will cause extra spacing between characters. Depending on the font used, this option may have no effect (such as with Courier New). However, it does affect the Lucida Console typeface. For example, unchecking this option when using a Lucida Console font will reduce the space between characters so that more characters can be displayed per line. Note that the font preview window does not show this option's effect, if any. This option is enabled by default. (New v4.011)

Editor 2 Tab

CheckBox Options

Auto Indent - Check this box to automatically place the cursor under the first non-whitespace character in the preceding line when you press the ENTER key. This option is enabled by default.
Limit EOL - Check this box to prevent the cursor from being positioned past the end of a line. If checked, then attempting to place the cursor past the end of a line will result in the cursor being placed at the last character position of the line. This option is enabled by default.
Back Unindents - Check this box to align the cursor with the previous indentation level from the preceding line when you press the BACKSPACE key. This option is enabled by default.
Double Click Line - Check this box to be able to select a line by double-clicking anywhere on the line. If this box is not checked, then double-clicking on the line will only select a word. Note that double-clicking to select a word when this option is off will allow word select mode (new v6.50). Note that a line can also be selected by triple-clicking it (new v6.50). This option is not enabled by default.
Use Tab Character - Check this box to place an actual tab character instead of spaces in the document when the TAB key is pressed. This option is enabled by default.
Cursor On Tabs - Check this box to make the cursor jump to tab characters when navigating with the cursor keys. This option is enabled by default.
Wrap at Margin - Check this box to wrap text at the right margin when word wrap is on. You can set the right margin in the Text Edit Options. This option is not enabled by default. (New v4.50)
Persistent Blocks - Check this box to keep a marked block (selected text) selected even when the cursor is moved. This option is not enabled by default. (New v4.50)
Overwrite Blocks - Check this box to replace a marked block (selected text) with whatever is typed next. If Persistent Blocks is checked, the typed text is appended to the marked block. This option is enabled by default. (New v4.50)
Select Only Text - Check this box to highlight only the selected text when text is selected (this is Notepad style). If this box is checked and all the text on a line is selected, then the line will only be highlighted to the end of the text and any unused line space past the end of the text is not highlighted. Checking this box also prevents blank lines from being highlighted when selected. Uncheck this box to enable highlighting of entire lines and blank lines when they are selected. This option is enabled by default. (New v4.5022)
Leave Trailing Spaces - Check this box to keep trailing space characters, such as spaces and tabs if they are at the end of a line. If this box is unchecked, then these characters are automatically removed. Note that unchecking this option may cause loaded documents and documents opened from the web to become "modified" (unsaved) if any trailing spaces are automatically removed. This option is enabled by default. (New v6.0091)
