Spell Checking

CSE HTML Validator Professional supports spell checking in the editor and also in the validator engine. The editor supports spell checking like a typical word processing application, text editor, or HTML editor would. The validator engine supports it by generating a single validator message with a list of words that are possibly misspelled. Note that the lite edition only supports spell checking in the editor.

NOTE: Performing a spell check in the editor works differently than performing a spell check using the validator engine. What words are checked depend on whether the spell check is performed in the editor or in the validator engine. If it is done in the editor, then words in HTML tags can be included or excluded depending on the Ignore markup languages option in Options->Spelling Options. When a spell check is done in the validator engine, a "smarter" approach is taken. Some words in relevant tags and attribute values may be checked, depending on what tag and attribute value it is. The spelling options in the Validator Engine Options, Validator 1 Tab also affect how the spell check is done in the validator.

Downloading and Installing New Dictionaries

Additional dictionaries supporting different languages are available. Please visit the download page of CSE HTML Validator's web site to download any additional dictionaries that are available and that you might want.

The default dictionary is American English.

Adding Words to the Dictionary

If you want to add a word to the spell checker's user dictionary, then you can use the integrated editor to perform a spell check (you cannot add words using the validator engine). When performing a spell check in the integrated editor, you will be given the option to add the word to the user dictionary.

Another option is to go to Options->Spelling Options, click the Dictionaries button, click the dictionary that you want to add the words to, click Edit, then add the words using the dialog box that appears.

The Misspelled Word List Validator Message

The validator engine will generate a misspelled word list if spell checking is enabled and misspelled words are found. This message can either be a warning message or a comment message. To choose whether you want this message to be a warning or a comment, see the spell checking options in the Validator Engine Options, Validator 1 tab. Also see the Validator Engine Options, Validator 1 tab for the option to disable the spelling message in case you do not want it generated.
