This editor is available from the Entities tab of the Configuration Editor.
This is where you can add and delete character entities. Character entities are used to display special characters such as the less-than and greater-than characters that are used to specify tags (the hypertext markup language). In addition, they are also used to display characters that are not available in the "lower ASCII" set, but are in the ISO-Latin-1 character set or other character set.
•Character entities - Contains a list of all character references, including groups of "built-in character entity references" like (numeric entities) that validate all numeric character references (such as ") and certain groups of character entity references. See below for the buttons used to add and delete character entities to and from this list box.
•(HTML 2.0 entities) - Named character entity references that are valid for HTML 2.0 compliant documents. Included are the popular character entities >, <, ", and many more.
•(math, greek entities) - Named character entity references that include mostly math symbols and Greek letters.
•(numeric entities) - Numeric character references in the form "&#D;", where D is a decimal number in the range of 32-126 or 160 to 255 (inclusive). 16 bit Unicode numeric character references can also be validated with this built-in group if enabled in the Validator Engine Options. Hexadecimal numeric character references in the form "&#xH;", where H is the hexadecimal value of the character reference, can also be validated if enabled in the Validator Engine Options.
•(special entities) - Miscellaneous character entity references.
The character entity references contained in the built-in reference lists are displayed in the list boxes to the right of the Character Entity Controls Box. You can only view these entities. They cannot be changed.
•Entity category - Use this combo box to select which tag category the selected character reference belongs to. You cannot change a built-in reference's category.
•New Entity - Press this button to add a new character reference to the Character Entities list box. The character reference that is added is the string contained in the edit box above the New Entity Button. Do not include the ampersand (&) and semicolon (;). Character entity references are case-sensitive.
•Delete Entity - Press this button to delete the character reference selected in the Character Entities list box. Built-in character references cannot be deleted.
