Thanks for the tips. I enabled the nsgmls messages in the validator options so that I get those as well. That ought to work.

I just like the feeling when my code compiles. For HTML the equivalent thing would be when it validates. I'd like the validator to check everything according to the spec unless it makes the page unreadable in browsers. And then it should also give advice, like CSE Validator does, for recommended cha...

CSE validator doesn't find problem that W3C validator finds

Try the below html with the CSE Validator and with the W3C validator. CSE reports no problems, while W3C reports "Line 4, Column 69: NET-enabling start-tag requires SHORTTAG YES." I'm not doing it, but wish I could. In a Java environment I suppose an Ant task would be the most appropriate way of doing it. Even better, though, would be a IntelliJ/Ecplise plugin, that would put you right on the code line where the erronoeus html is produced. I haven't really looked around, but ...
