Re: Unexpected error

Excellent. I understand full well that my specific issue opened up a can of worms, in that many similar cases might need safeguarding with longer warnings. It's an aspect of CSS parsing that I did not know about previously. Many thanks!

Re: Unexpected error

That might do the trick, as it gets to the heart of the problem.

Unexpected error

I used the :focus-within pseudo-class as one selector in a list of selectors, like this: .body a:focus-within, .body a:active { background-color: transparent; } The Validator helpfully inform me that it is a CSS4 pseudo-class, and warns that some browsers may not support it. Fine and good. But the s...

lazyloading attributes coming to Chrome

Starting in Chrome 75 (and currently available in Chrome Canary under a flag), the browser will handle lazyloading of images and iframes, with "lazy", "eager", and "auto" values for a "loading" attribute. Whatwg seems on track to standardize it, so it looks like yet another thing to validate. Human ...

New attributes for rel=preload LINK in Chrome 73+

I've been using the srcset and sizes attributes on my IMG elements to allow images to load that are closer to the device viewport size and DPR. In tandem with that, I've been using rel=preload LINK elements to get the images to the page before the images are rendered, but the problem with that is ev...

Structural outline?

Does the Validator include a structural outline generator? See the attached screenshot, taken from the output of https://validator.w3.org/nu/, which I find indispensable. At that site, you check the "outline" checkbox before checking the HTML. The screenshot is of its reading of https://en.wikipedia...

noscript alternative to application/ld+json scripts?

I use several application/ld+json scripts for schema in my sites. The validator flags them with a blue message, saying, All scripts must have a text alternative that can be changed into other forms people need, such as large print, braille, speech, symbols or simpler language. Consider using the "no...

Validator throws error when CSS variable is used in border-bottom style rule

I've encountered an odd error that the Validator reports when I use the short version of the CSS border-bottom style employing a CSS variable. The following code produces the error The value being set with "var(--background-color)" has already been set by "3px" which appears earlier. <!DOCTYPE html>...

Re: Possible Media Type error?

I've discovered a similar bug. For a base element like <base href="https://example.com">, the validator throws a link error: Status: Check Media Type Type: meta twitter:url Comment: Expected an image media type but got "text/html; charset=utf-8" instead The <base> element should have nothing to do w...

Possible Media Type error?

In checking links, the validator complains: Expected an image media type but got "text/html; charset=utf-8" instead The type it indicates is meta twitter:url , however, from the documentation, it seems that both the twitter:url and the og:url are supposed to provide the canonical url for the page on...

Re: content attribute with URLs in meta tags

I've decided to abstract all of that data to a proper application/ld+json script, which resolves all of the issues.

It's happy with <meta itemprop=image content="images/acme-logo.jpg"> though. That's what puzzles me.

content attribute with URLs in meta tags

The Yandex structured data checker ( https://webmaster.yandex.com/tools/microtest/ ) reported a surprising error to me: ERROR: The 'content' property of a meta tag can't contain a URL It was in reference to this block: <!DOCTYPE html> <html lang=en-us prefix="og: http://ogp.me/ns#" itemscope itemtyp...
