Re: Is "lightgray" a valid named colour?

Is lightgray a valid named colour? Looking at the Cascading Style Sheets, level 2, CSS2 Specification, Section 4.3.6 Colors the answer is yes. "A <color> is either a keyword or a numerical RGB specification. The list of keyword color names is: aqua, black, blue, fuchsia, gray, green, lime, maroon, ...

Re: Underscore in class and ID selectors

The '_' was not allowed in CSS1, it is allowed in CSS2 and is supported by all major recent browser (IE6, IE7, FF, Opera, Netscape). For ensuring CSS1 compatibility, you are right it is better to avoid the '_', but CSS1-only browsers are now really rare in the wild. My bad. I thought about rechecki...

Re: Style Checker problems

1/ Is it possible to change the rules of the css style checker ? I would like for example to allow class selector containing the underline ('_') character in addition to a-z,A-Z,0-9 and the hyphen ('-'). I'm not part of the "Support Team" but I guess my question is why? The way I read the CSS stand...

Mike, I did not intend to accuse you of something a nefarious as trying to hijack a thread. You are experiencing a problem I am having trouble duplicating. I just wanted to be sure my small brain understood what you meant. (now back to the program in progress) Sites that fired a validation: http://l...

That and I found the progeress bar that popped up for every new page a bit annoying (but that's just my preference, the freezing issue was unacceptable). Yes it is your preferences. In Firefox go to <Tools>, <Add on> select the HTML validator Select <OPTION> make sure the "Automatic validation" is ...

2) It's better but still flaky. More sites fail than work. Do you mean that the validator does not work for more sites than it works or the validator indicates that more sites fail (to validate) that process without errors or warning? if the first could you give 2 or 3 URLs that fail so I can see w...

Just loaded ver 1.2.3 of the add on to 2.0.0.11 of Firefox, CSE 8.0403 (pro) Seems to work for me (running XP last update...

Add my vote for weighting. I anticipate most of those that would look at my web pages may not have the fastest connectivity. I know some have dial-up, some use a sat link where the total volume is limited. Even using DSL I still run into web sites that are almost to slow for my attention span. It se...

Nope. I use relative addressing, as in src="./gif/image.gif"

This way I can move index.html (and /gif/) with its reference to /gif/image.gif from
my development area C:\development\site1
to ...\My_Websites\main
without having to change the reference.

I know, if it were a word "an" would normally be correct, but have always heard and said "a URL"

<snip>it would be easy for spammers to get around it and they would have done so by now (at least in the newer email harvesting programs). Albert I agree. A fair number of the spam I receive use a similar method to hide their web links so that spam reporting bots like SpamCop can't identify address...

Re: Inserting/importing tables

Exporting an xls to html via Excel is a joke when all I want is simple and slick, non-css code. If CSE will not support table insert does anyone know a product which does? I agree Microsoft products "write" bad html. But this is the approch I used. Its not pretty but then again it works. Built the ...
