Clarification about some errors please

Hello I have switched off warnings and messages, and run my webhelp through the batch validator (version 10). I fixed many of the issues that it raised. But I am left with a few and I wanted to see if they were chm2web issues or false postives etc.. Here are the errors from the report: http://www.pu...

Re: Many errors

Hi Andrew, I looked at the issues and using a "body" section after the head section eliminates most of the error and warning messages. You might mention this to the developer, as well as using a DOCTYPE since there is none... but as for this affecting people's ability to see the site, I don't think...

Re: Many errors

The basic and free HTML Workshop from Microsoft, which compiles html files into a chm file, can also extract the html files from a chm file if that's of any interest to you. It won't include the contents, index, search, or favorites functionality of the chm file but you can get the html files. John...

Re: Many errors

Hi

Thanks for checking. True, but I don't know of any other decent CHM to website convertors at modest cost. Unless you do. :)

Many errors

Hello! I am trying out a software application that converts a CHM file to a website. I have uploaded the results to my website: http://www.publictalksoftware.co.uk/public_talks/HelpOnline/ When I run this through the validator I seem to get a lot of errors. Are these bogus errors? Should I be mentio...

Re: Quote symbols

Both the quotes were on the line but only the first was picked up.

Not to worry. Minor matter.

Re: Using bullet characters

I tried to use them but they showed as normal text characters. In my situation I am using a web browser control in a program which is IE derived so I think things will work differently. So I reverted back.

It would be nice if some of your options were projecr specific rather than global.

Using bullet characters

Hello I use bullet characters in my code. But I get this warning: Error in line 456 at character 53: Found an invalid character reference "•". Characters between 128 and 159 (inclusive) are typically Microsoft specific and are reserved for control characters in the standard Internet character s...

Should I use <EMBED> for Flash?

Hello

I added some flash using <OBJECT> and had an <EMBED> inside it. But that showed as an issue. Should one use <embed> or not?

Re: Are there standards about PDF links?

Hi I am being given opinions here rather than a standard. The reason I asked was because I tried another validation program before I bought this one. That program flagged up my page for having PDF links and no links to a reader. This is ahy I thought it must be good practise to use a reader link. No...

Re: Are there standards about PDF links?

Hello

I actually provide two links:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readermain.html
http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php

with relevant images. But your link seems better for adobe.

Are there standards about PDF links?

Hello Are there any standards that tell you to incloude a PDF reader download link if you link to PDF files on your page? I seem to recall one validation package bringing this up as an issue but I don't think CSE version does. I am not worried about it. I just wanted to know if there is a standard o...
