HOW TO: Generate validator messages from meta tags

Post by Albert Wiersch » Tue Jul 19, 2005 9:30 pm

This message is a HOW TO that describes a way to take advantage of CSE HTML Validator's powerful configuration options and built-in programming language by generating validator messages that show all the meta tag information in your document. To do this, try the following (professional edition only):

1. Load CSE HTML Validator's Editor.
2. Goto Options->Configuration Editor and then the Programs tab.
3. Select meta (058) as the Tag Name Being Configured.
4. Make sure the Open tag name program radio button is selected.
5. Add the following code to the bottom of the program that is displayed in the Program Editor:

Code: Select all

Message(1, $MSG_MESSAGE, 'meta tag: ' + $nameorhttpequivvalue + ' - "' + $contentvalue + '"');
If you want to give this message a message ID (2005071900 in this example) so that a user can easily disable this message or change its type, then use this instead:

Code: Select all

MessageEx(13, 2005071900, $MSG_MESSAGE, 'meta tag: ' + $nameorhttpequivvalue + ' - "' + $contentvalue + '"');
If you also want to give this message a category ("Custom Message") in this example, then use this instead:

Code: Select all

MessageEx(5, 2005071900, $MSG_MESSAGE, 'Custom Message', 'meta tag: ' + $nameorhttpequivvalue + ' - "' + $contentvalue + '"');

Lable tag present but reported as missing

Post by bernie4253 » Tue Dec 13, 2005 5:01 am

I'm using a "label" meta tag, generated by ICRA, which reads as follows:

<link rel="meta" href="./labels.rdf" type="application/rdf+xml" title="ICRA labels" />

However, CSE version 7.0003 reports there to be no label tag on the pages. Can I use this technique to report the tag as valid, or not report it as missing?

Hello,

Please upgrade to CSE HTML Validator 7.01 which should take care of this issue.
