Special Characters in HTML

Post by platinum »

Forgive me if this was a topic in the archived forum. I am starting to use CSE to validate pages that have special MS Word characters. Smart quotes, apostrophes, etc. Currently I am filtering those out in Dreamweaver MX but I would love to integrate them as ERRORS in the CSE validator.

Any suggestions for how to start this. I found the Program Event for Text within the validator settings, but as far as validating the characters it finds, im not sure where to go from there.

Hello,

You may first want to try checking "Check for high ASCII characters" in the Validator 2 tab of Options->Validator Engine Options. If that doesn't work well for you, then please let me know.

Yes, that does seem to catch the smartquotes, the smart em's and the funny apostrophes.

Thanks!
