Check missing <p> tags?

Post by Jocelyn113 » Mon Aug 12, 2013 9:36 pm

Hi,

I find CSE HTML Validator Pro v10.01 not checking if <p> tags are missing around content. Is it possible to configure CSE to make it check opening and closing tags around all paragraph text? Thanks!

Hello,

If you want text enclosed in tags like "p", then you should use HTML 4.01 strict and CSE HTML Validator should enforce this. I wouldn't recommend it though as it's really not needed.

I recommend HTML5, the current standard even though it's not yet finalized by the W3C (but it's close). HTML5 does not require "p" tags around text.

If you want to make sure that optional end tags are there (I think this is a good idea), then you can check the option to require optional end tags in the Validator Engine Options. In my opinion this will result in better structure and be easier to maintain at a small and most likely negligible cost of increased file size.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions.
