CSE HTML Validator with UltraEdit

Post by mdbrower » Thu Feb 25, 2016 1:39 pm

Years ago I recall using the functionality of CSE HTML Validator from within UltraEdit (It was a menu item next to HTML Tidy). I was able to check validation from within UltraEdit and it would provide the same output as actually opening the file and running from within CSE HTML Validator program. I do not see that functionality in current versions of UltraEdit. Is it still possible?

Thanks,
Michael

Hello Michael,

Unfortunately UltraEdit decided to no longer make CSE HTML Validator available in the menu.

However, you should be able to call it as a tool. I will ask them how to do this and post back when I hear back.

Hi Michael,

How about adding a Tool in UltraEdit (Advanced->Tool Configuration or, in newer versions, Advanced->User tools->Configure tools) that would open CSE HTML Validator with the current document. You could then hit F6 to validate it in CSE HTML Validator.

The command line for the UltraEdit tool would look something like this:

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files (x86)\HTMLValidator160\cmdlineprocessor.exe" -o "%f"
If you want the results shown in a "Command Output" tab in UltraEdit, you could try this:

Code: Select all

"C:\Program Files (x86)\HTMLValidator160\cmdlineprocessor.exe" -e,(stdout) "%f"
However, the above is not in a "human friendly" format.

I think the best approach is the first one - to open the document in CSE HTML Validator's editor and validate it there.

If you like the second approach where the messages are shown in UltraEdit then I could look into supporting a more human friendly message output format.

Thanks for the info Albert. I will try both methods and let you know.

I checked both methods. I could never get the second one to work correctly. When I attempted the second method, I heard the Windows Critical stop.wav sound but nothing in the Output window showed up. That being said, I am fine with the first method. It gives me the functionality I am after. Thank you for finding a solution for me.

Thanks,
Michael

Hi Michael,

I'm glad the first method gives you what you want.

As for the Output Window in UltraEdit (should you still be interested), I think you have to go to the Output tab in the Tool Configuration and check the "Output to list box" box if you want the output to go to the Output Window. However, I found an issue where the lines are not displayed correctly. It seems that UltraEdit requires CRLF line endings and CSE HTML Validator doesn't output that (until the next update anyway).

Hello Michael (and anyone else who might be interested),

Would you be interested in a way to show the validator messages in UltraEdit's Output Window with the ability to click on a message and be taken to the corresponding line in the source (all from within in UltraEdit)? Or are you quite happy with just opening the document in CSE HTML Validator's own editor? Thanks.

Hello Michael,

Do you use UltraEdit and would you like to try it out (help test it)?

Thanks!

Hi Al,

I actually use UE's big brother, UEStudio - but I guess anything they do to UE will also find its way into UES. (And certainly I'd be happy to test it...)

Thanks

Michael

Great! I'm putting the finishing touches on it and will let you know when it's ready for more testing.

Hi Michael,

Please download CSE HTML Validator Pro again from:
https://www.htmlvalidator.com/download/registered.php

You should get v16.0205 even though the system doesn't say that version is available yet.

Then please try configuring UEStudio using these instructions:
https://www.htmlvalidator.com/htmlval/i ... tputwindow

Please let me know how it works. Thanks!

Hi Al,
I would be interested and I use both UltraEdit and UltraStudio. I will try the link you provided and let you know my results.

When I tried the download, it downloaded version 16.0202 instead of the v16.0205 you listed in the previous post. I tried it twice and got the same result both times.

I'm sorry for the trouble. What edition did you download? I may need to update it for that edition. I thought you had the pro.
