Autofill suggestions

Post by RSteinwand » Fri Jun 10, 2016 8:06 am

Hi Albert,

I thought this was good for skimming thru. I haven't checked to see what I should (or can) add. I know login/password and sensitive items, like credit card and check routing/account numbers should be: autocomplete="off". (I get a spanking if an audit finds one that isn't.)

On the other hand, "contact us" forms should definitely use autofill suggestions, which is where I intend to start.

More info:

https://developers.google.com/web/updat ... fill?hl=en
http://caniuse.com/#search=autocomplete
https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/doc ... tocomplete

Once I started adding it to my "Contact Us" page fields, I see you already have support for autofill.

I was wondering what would happen if autocomplete didn't recognize a word....

Code: Select all

autocomplete="oganization"
The "autocomplete" value "oganization" does not appear to be valid. Visit http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/cu ... tocomplete for more information.

Thanks Rick! Those are some great links on the autocomplete attribute. It looks like updating support for the autocomplete attribute will be one of the first things I work on for v17 as I've ended v16 development (except for possible bug fixes). I'll let you know when a BETA is ready in case you want to try it.

I finished my contact us page and ended up adding autocomplete fields to every common field. I don't know if it was really needed since most browsers already do a good job, but making it easier for anyone to contact you, esp from a mobile device with it's clunky keyboard, is a good thing.

I would like to play with the credit card autofill fields, but I'm pretty sure I'd end up having to remove them, or have them enabled just for development, since we have to do a lot of testing (sometimes daily).

Sounds like fun. I just upgraded my work PC to Windows 10 so lost a days work with the tweaking that comes with a major upgrade. My main concern after the firewall was fixed was the slow start times. (I need a SSD.)

That sure does make a big difference.... and they are so cheap nowadays! Hard to believe what I was paying for them not too many years ago but I thought they were worth it even at those prices (at least for the computers I used a lot).

I picked up a 500gb SSD when I purchased my laptop a couple years ago and my wife has a similar laptop (but i5 instead of i7) with the stock 1TB drive. I can install Windows Updates on both at the same time and mine will be back at the desktop before I see the prompt to reboot on hers. I might add I have more installed on my laptop as well.

Now you're making me feel guilty I haven't updated her laptop to a ssd.
