Hello

When can we expect TopStyle 5 ?

Topstyle 4.0 Stable was released on Monday, June 01, 2009

Its been 2 years since a major version release.

Why the delay, is work being done on Topstyle or is it dead ?

TopStyle is not dead. We're working on TopStyle 5. It is scheduled for 2011.

IbnSaeed asks two valid questions - thank you for the response to the first one. :D

I would like to echo IbnSaeed's request for some elaboration on the 2nd question. Patience is a virtue, that is true, but patience can die from hunger. Some of us long time TS users have been more than patient and would love to hear a few more details on the release of TS 5 please. :D Could you please extend that courtesy to us? I realize that TS has taken a back seat to other projects more important to you and your team but it's importance to us is huge. If you could devote a paragraph or 2 to outlining what is going on and some release notes we would greatly appreciate it.

Thank you!

This is not a complete list, but TopStyle 5 should support at least this:

* SFTP
* editor improvements (for example: live highlighting of matching brackets and tags)
* support for new at-rules (such as @font-face, for example)
* new style definitions for CSS 3, Google Chrome, iOS4, and iOS5
* support for the latest web browsers (Firefox 4, IE 9, Safari 5, etc)
* CSS insight improvements (for example: list should collapse while typing)
* support for HTML 5 (including a HTML 5 validator)

Because nothing has been finalized yet, I'm open to your suggestions.

Thanks!

Thanks again

Hello,

I am a long time user of TopStyle and still loving it so much.

Some suggestion to improve it:

More PHP support like most of the competitors. Better code highlighting, expand and collapse portion of code...
Improve the look and feel, look how beautiful the Panic CODA interface is... At least go for better looking icons that don't stretch if made bigger, see again UltraEdit as sample
SSH support, all serious web developers use it (see UltraEdit)
Improve the browser live site preview that now crash quite often and allow for vertical preview (See WeBuilder or Komodo edit)
FTP: Allow to go up on root folder even if the first path chosen in the setting is public_html/wp-content/themes/website
Please chuck in the BIN Internet Explorer and offer Firefox and Google Chrome support

I hope that all of my suggestions will be considered

Many thanks

TopStyle 5 is going to support SFTP.

Do you happen to have reproducible steps? I would love to reproduce and fix this.

Apparently, a lot of these problems are caused by IE9 running inside the preview panel. Have you considered switching to Mozilla Gecko or Apple WebKit?

Alternatively, you can close the preview panel altogether. This happens to considerably speed things up.
ciaoweb wrote: allow for vertical preview
I'm not sure if this is what you need, but you can drag the preview panel out of it's default (bottom) position, and then drop it onto the property inspector. You'll end up with a preview that aligns with the editor vertically. This minimal layout is actually defaulting to this.

For internal preview, we do support Mozilla Gecko (the same engine that is powering Firefox) and Apple WebKit (the same engine that is powering Google Chrome).

Thanks, Stefan.

Dear Topstyle Support,
As an excerpt from your response regarding Topstyle 5 features, it reads:
"...support for the latest web browsers (Firefox 4, IE 9, Safari 5, etc)"

May I be so bold as to note that by the time Topstyle 5 is released (only a few months left in 2011), you can be assured that Firefox 6 will be out, and Safari 6 is likely to appear this year as well. And can IE10 be far off?
Topstyle 5 could already be behind, at least with regard to browser support, by the time it is released.

Just my two cents.
Respectfully.

My employer is planning on purchasing several TopStyle licences.
Is there any timeline on when TopStyle 5 will be released?
We don't want to purchase version 4 and have to upgrade to version 5 in a month.

If you buy version 4 now, then I promise you FREE licenses for version 5.
