How do I change the location of menu items on the menu.js?

Postby jbdmusic » Tue Apr 26, 2011 1:56 pm

Hi, my website is: http://www.masshealthquote.com. I wanted to move the menu items in the top right to below the logo and from left to right. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks a lot, Josh, josh@masshealthquote.com

Here's the code for the menu.js:

<!-- Begin

<!-- NOTE: If you use a ' add a slash before it like this \' -->

document.write('<TABLE cellpadding=0 cellspacing=0 border=0><tr><td>');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=225 WIDTH=10><br>');
document.write('</td><td valign="bottom">');

document.write('<!-- START LINK TABLE-->');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="selectstatehealth.htm">Health</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="medicareadv.htm">Medicare Advantage Plans</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="medicaresupp.htm">Medicare Supplements</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="selectstatestm.htm">Temporary Health</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="groupsizeselect.htm">Group Quote</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="selectstatelife.htm">Life Quote</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="annuities.htm">Retirement</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="selectstatedental.htm">Dental Quote</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center background="picts/background-link.gif" height="23">');
document.write('<img src="picts/spacer.gif" HEIGHT=5 WIDTH=15>&bull; <a href="about.htm">About Us</a><br>');

document.write('</td></tr><tr><td ALIGN=left VALIGN=center>');
document.write('<img src="picts/link-end-1.gif" HEIGHT=1 WIDTH=34><br>');

<!-- NOTE: CHANGE THE HEIGHT=49 TO A SMALLER NUMBER TO MAKE ROOM FOR MORE LINKS -->

document.write('<img src="picts/link-end.gif" HEIGHT=49 WIDTH=34><br>');

document.write('</td></tr></table>');
document.write('<!-- LINK TABLE-->');
document.write('</td></tr></table>');

// End -->

Re: How do I change the location of menu items on the menu.j

Hi Josh,

I would recommend re-doing the menu and dropping the JavaScript requirement. Inserting HTML into documents with JavaScript & document.write() should generally be avoided, especially when it is not necessary.

A simple menu with links shouldn't be hard to do, and CSS can be used to make it look better.

After looking at a few pages, I think it may be better and easier to re-do your site from scratch. If you have "decent" or "good" knowledge of HTML, it shouldn't be too hard to do it yourself. You may want to buy a pre-made template and start from there. I think there are also free ones available.

You might also want to pay someone to do this. A site you might want to use to find someone is vWorker:
http://www.vworker.com/

Another option might be software that let's you create a site with little or no HTML knowledge. There are also online services (like WebSite Tonight) that let you create simple sites easily, though I'm not sure of the HTML quality behind them (I suspect it isn't great) and I haven't used them.

Of course, whatever is done, I would suggest that you make sure your site pass a check by CSE HTML Validator (at the very least pass with no errors). :D
