TouchPad Windows 10 and CSS Validator

Post by Lou »

I admit to being old school. I don't like the touch Pad on my laptop, so I have it turned off.
I think starting with the last update while using CSS HTML Validator the touch pad becomes active while editing. This does not happen when CSS is not being used.

HP Notebook, Windows 10, current, CSS HTML Validator 2018 (v18.0110) pro
Logitech wireless mouse, printers etc all connected by .

Sorry I can't tell you with which version this started, 18.00 or later update. I do have a copy of 170105pro-setup and 180014pro-setup I could reload if that would help.

It is a pain. Out of the blue the touch pad becomes active and while typing the courser moves, a block gets high lighted/over typed moved what ever. (which is why I turned the pad off).

If there is something I can try etc to help troubleshoot, let me know. Thanks Albert

Hi Lou,

Unfortunately I don't know why that would happen. As far as I know touchpad control should be controlled by the OS or a driver. CSS HTML Validator doesn't do anything to enable or disable touchpads... that's usually an option somewhere else in the OS.

I am like you that I much prefer mice over touchpads. I think there is usually a mouse setting somewhere or a utility program you can get that disables the touchpad if a mouse is plugged in.

If you install v17.0105 and you don't have this issue but you do with v18.0110 then I would be very surprised because there is nothing in CSS HTML Validator that should disable or enable touchpads (at least that I am aware of.... it's always possible that the GUI framework that is used is doing something to cause this but I think that would be highly unlikely).

I know. I couldn't think of an reason why there would be a connection to CSS, however... Yes there is a "Pointer device" utility that I used to disable the pad. I will be more observant and let you know what I learn. Will start with a roll back to 17.0105

Albert, switching back and forth between ver 17 and 18 when using 18 the touchpad keeps becoming active. I can not identify what action caused the pad to switch back on. I edit a file, validate, save and switch to FireFox run the PHP script, switch back to CSS, etc. At some point during editing the touchpad becomes active again.

Don't know what else to try. I am using the Synaptics pointer device utility to turn off the touchpad. Any advice would be helpful.

Hi Lou,

So are you saying that with 2018 (v18) the touchpad eventually becomes active again but with v17 it doesn't?

Unfortunately if that is happening then I really have no idea why it is. Are you using the latest version of the Synaptics pointer device utility?

I did recently update my development environment and it's possible they fixed something that might cause this problem, but it's a long shot. The next update should pass along any fixes that were made, but I'd be surprised if it fixed this issue.

One thing I might suggest is searching for similar issues... maybe search for something like "synaptics touchpad becomes active again". Perhaps this has happened to others and there's a already a known solution or workaround.

Upgrades of both windows 10 and CSS have had no effect.

Don't have the same issue when just using browser and email. next step is just have XAMPP and/or CSS on and unused while doing other things.

Have not had time to plow through all the search results yet. A quick glance reveals that lots of people complain about the pad becoming disabled (I wish!). Seemed to be references to gaming. My casual reading has been that games have a long history of 'stepping over the line' when pushing the boundaries to get one more clock cycle out of a system.

If I find anything I will pass it on.

Yep totally random. I was spending too much time developing with CSS to see the overall trend.

Bad sample set; bad results. Oh well moving on.

Thanks for the update. I'm glad it wasn't specifically related to CSS HTML Validator. I hope you find a fix; I know touchpads can be extremely annoying sometimes.
