No browser compatibility info inside Style Inspector panel
No browser compatibility info inside Style Inspector panel
This was one of the very useful pieces of Style Inspector. Now in version 5 there is no browser compatibility info there. Or maybe I just missing something?
P.S. There is no Opera browser compatibility info at all in version 5. Opera has pretty strong presence in Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, etc. This info will be missed.

Re: No browser compatibility info inside Style Inspector pan
When you're in CSS (when the Inspector is listing CSS properties), there is browser compatibility at the bottom of the Inspector. This has not changed for version 5.
The same goes for Insight (Ctrl+Space): when you're in CSS and Insight is listing CSS properties, there are browser compatibility icons in Insight.
There is no browser compatibility info for Opera because the Opera market share is in the single digits.

These statistics are true for w3school.com, but as discussed in other threads here (and noted by w3school) each domain has its own audience and browser distribution. Opera may have a higher share on other sites.TopStyle Support wrote:There is no browser compatibility info for Opera because the Opera market share is in the single digits:

I understand and I would love to support Opera but I'm a single-guy shop with limited time and resources. Not supporting Opera is one of those awful implementation decisions I need to make.Lou wrote:These statistics are true for w3school.com, but as discussed in other threads here (and noted by w3school) each domain has its own audience and browser distribution. - Is it something that can be added later (after release)?
- Can it be added by someone else (just by editing or adding some config file) and share with others?

Depends on what you need. If you need browser compatibility info for Opera in the Inspector and Insight, then yes, this is something that can be added by someone else. It is mostly a matter of editing the CSS Level 3 style definition (available in your TopStyle folder).FataL wrote: Two questions:

What if you could hit F1 to bring up a web page in your browser with CSS property information for the property in question and links to browser compatibility information?FataL wrote:Two questions:

Many people will be just lazy to do this and you should be somehow already aware that rule you just wrote is might not be widely compatible. Showing browser compatibility info in Insight is great for rules you already know, while compatibility info inside Style Inspector panel is useful for exploring options (solutions).Albert Wiersch wrote:What if you could hit F1 to bring up a web page in your browser with CSS property information for the property in question and links to browser compatibility information?FataL wrote:Two questions:

According for less "biased" source and it is better to look at it separately per market:TopStyle Support wrote:There is no browser compatibility info for Opera because the Opera market share is in the single digits

TopStyle 5 is already doing this.Albert Wiersch wrote:What if you could hit F1 to bring up a web page in your browser with CSS property information for the property in question and links to browser compatibility information?

I launched the (less biased) page, and the very 1st picture I'm seeing says it all.FataL wrote: According for less "biased" source

Yes, that takes them to a help page on htmlvalidator.com, but I was specifically wondering about the browser compatibility information. I was considering adding links on the CSS property help pages to sites that contain information about browser compatibility. For example, caniuse.com. I've tried contacting the developer of that site but have had no luck. It seems to contain useful information on browser compatibility.TopStyle Support wrote:TopStyle 5 is already doing this.
The issue with browser compatibility these days is that there's like a new Firefox and Chrome release every week!

The point is that market is clustered. As I said initially -- Opera's market share is pretty strong in Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus.TopStyle Support wrote:I launched the (less biased) page, and the very 1st picture I'm seeing says it all:
And the question is: if you not going to add support for Opera, can users themselves create or update some files to add Opera?

Re: No browser compatibility info inside Style Inspector pan
Regarding this ability, I've made contact with the owner of caniuse.com and have obtained explicit permission to integrate a link to their site with compatibility information on HTML elements and CSS properties in the CSE HTML Validator online help pages.Albert Wiersch wrote:What if you could hit F1 to bring up a web page in your browser with CSS property information for the property in question and links to browser compatibility information?
In CSE HTML Validator or TopStyle 5, pressing F1 should open the appropriate online help page for the current HTML element or CSS property. In the "Recommended Links" section on the help page should be a link to "caniuse.com" which contains a lot of browser compatibility information. There are also other useful reference links in that section.
Here's an example for the border-radius CSS property:

My business is not isolated to Belarus. I'm trying to sell things thing world-wide.FataL wrote:Opera's market share is pretty strong in Eastern Europe, Russia, Ukraine, Belarus.
Yes, they can. If you're ambitious you can create a style definition for Opera and put it in the cssdefs folder.FataL wrote:And the question is: if you not going to add support for Opera, can users themselves create or update some files to add Opera?
