Hi nextegen, I'm a user of CSE who thinks what you are thinking of is a very worthwhile venture. I'd like to see CMS applications produce better markup. I look forward to seeing some details of how this goes. It can be hard, so (after you've seen what is possible) I suggest setting easily reachable ...

I have developed content generation code that emits valid XHTML . This is not too hard when you do it from the start of a project. I have also simply not used pre-developed code and rolled my own, several times. This to avoid importing foul mark-up. Having said the negative things there may be some ...

I got that web site published and have now (I believe, 5 or so tests worked) sorted the problem. Solution: Mark both cse8 and the cmdline processor as exceptions to " Data Execution Protection " (DEP) in Windows 2003 . This is Control panel>System>Advanced>Performance... NOTES: 1) If you marked Beta...

CSE 8 stopped functioning on Windows 2003

My CSE 8 has stopped running. Here's some details: Win 2003. It started while I was running IE7 FF2 and a copy of Homesite. Initial symptoms: Switch back to another application and closed when validating an htm (I suspect that validating a CSS worked). Editor opened fine from file and from web. Rest...

Thanks Albert. The ideal test is to look at the entire fallback chain and look that up against the capability of vistors. I understand there's likely no practical way to do that. The best I know of is the Code Style survey which is imperfect and doesn't give that lookup anyway. (It's problems includ...

Thanks for that.

Do you have a write up / published spec. on "web-safe" fonts?

Whats the easiest way to get a list of web-safe and recognised (codes 10 and 11) fonts?

CSS checking

Hi, I checked a CSS stylesheet (under development based on existing sheet). Some points I noticed: 1) I got a "font not widely available" message even where some fonts in the chain are widely available and each chain ends with a generic type. Where the chain is in fact well designed to be cross plat...

Try the options:file-associations mentioned above.

Not sure whether it requires a simple restart of IE or a reboot to take effect.

Let us know whether it brings it back.

Hi Albert, On the IE button, there was a write up somewhere that I used when I first installed. I wanted to recheck it for clues about current behaviour. My current take on the situation includes: 1) I have CSE 8 working albeit with an unexpected title. I believe this was automatically added from fi...

Hi Cary, There is an article with more detail about this specific issue somewhere. I did pick that option (associations) but I still get behaviour I don't understand. Aspects include: 1) I still have the original cse70 referred to in IE 6, even though file associations have been removed. I also chec...

Issues on installing 8 release version

I've just emerged from doing other things and installed version 8. I installed as follows: Grab programexport from current installs, remove 8 Beta, remove 7, then install 8. I've found the following: 1) chm based help does not work. "HtmlHelpW() Failed", "An error occurred opening the html help path...

I think it's better to know where things are wrong. I suspect that many users with "warnings switched off" would not enable those warnings, as they had originally intended. I don't know how long it would take to convert your content. In some cases I've seen large numbers of problems on multiple page...

That's good news. (Internationalising content is still an ugly area. Some of the issues being to make sure that nobody and noprogram damages work already done.)

Some quick feedback: 1) I had a non-standard installation. 8 (Beta 1) installed but 7 running from the edit button of IE etc. I installed with IE still active. I'm not greatly concerned about this. 2) It occurred to me that it may be easy to create a version of the source that is ANSI encoded and su...
