I just ran another check and got an exception. I loaded a page from a local (IIS 6) web server. The page loaded fine, but when I came to validate it crashed . (This is a Windows 2003 machine) Window was titled: \rtf\b Line:\b01 cse80.exe Application Error and message was Instruction at 0x00200074 re...

I've just checked what nsgmls is about. It's the checker behind both the W3C and WDG on-line tools. Produced I think by James Clark. That immediately tells me that it has at least one use with CSE. I can use it to see what those other checkers will detect. (Without going on-line.) It would be more u...

First thoughts with 8 Beta 1
I just installed the Beta 1, here's some initial observations: 1) For a Beta install, I planned ahead and prepared the way to replace the 7 DLL in the system directory after installation. It would save time to have a switch to not install it for the Beta setup. 2) It struck me how useful it would be...

That date change issue is one thing that could be a problem. One answer is to use a "touch" mechanism. By this I mean one of those tools that changes (touches) date, read write attributes etc. on a file. In this case you use it to ensure that all is put back the way you want it after processing the ...

Hi, I'm interested in your situation, because I face similar issues. If you have developers who only develop, one potential option is to set up their copies of CSE to validate source. If they also validate web server output an alternative browser setup can be used for that. (If there are several peo...

What you do depends on what you are comfortable with. One approach that springs to mind, for those who don't mind a little light programming is to code up a script. It could be run outside your development environment when you are ready to publish. You might define a special tag within the body say ...

Interface to (unit) test .NET 2 generated markup with CSE
If anyone is using CSE to check markup generated using .NET 2 , this might help. It's an interface (with source) which can be used within your NUnit or MBUnit tests. It comes in two versions. One interfaces with Lite the other with Standard and Pro. An article at http://www.decisionz.com/document/CM...

Re: Batch Wizard requests (almost) infinite loop of pages
Hi Paul, Like Albert I'm unsure of what these long URL's actually mean Requested "http://www.nature.com/onc/journal/v25/n1/fig_tab/1209010f1.html?url=/onc/journal/v25/n1/full/1209010f2.html?url=/onc/journal/v25/n1/full/1209010f2.html?url=/onc/journal/v25/n1/full/1209010f2.html?url=/onc/journal/v25/n...

That indicates that (in this forum at least) microformats are not in use. There's a fair amount of talk about them from people who would like to invent the future, and they seem to be creeping into various areas so we might see more. In the short term I'd guess that some small/closed groups are usin...

Special syntax in css sheets for compiled help
I found the following syntax for css used in chm files. CSE does not recognise it.
MSHelp\:ktable
{
disambiguator: span;
filterString: ;
postfix:
prefix: |
separator:  |
}
It would be useful to have this in the css validation.

Thanks for that Albert. I'm no expert on RDF and haven't used it yet. There are areas where this sort of thing would be very useful to me, though the designs I see don't really hack it (yet). Examples (I've replaced angle brackets with ( and ) in the following, the CMS system kills the markup!): Att...
