Windows 2000 Support???

Post by chucktr »

Hello,
Yes there are some who are still using Win2K  . Top style works fine "except" on the saves. The very first save after you have entered TopStyle 5 is OK. However, the second and all thereafter, will give the message:
"This document has been modified since you last saved it. Save anyway?"
It works fine in our Windows 7 -but- not in our Win2K. Are there any suggestions or fixes for this problem ... besides dump Win2K??

Thanks for a fine product,
Chuck
P.S.
We are running Win2K inside VMware inside openSuSE 12.2. Main reason we have been using Win2K has been so that we could use Homesite... yep, some of us are still using it. -But- now would like to upgrade but have this "minor" problem on the saves. Hoping there is some kind of fix. Oh and the reason for the Win2K is.... Homesite and TopStyle do not work in Linux.

You can turn OFF this message here: Options (F8) > General > Ask to reload files modified outside of TopStyle

We realize that -but- really don't believe that is a valid option. The file was NOT modified outside of TopStyle -but- within it. We don't get the message on the "first" save whilst in TopStyle, only on the second and all thereafter. I guess that this reply means that there is not a fix and there won't be???
Thanks anyway,
Chuck

Does the long silence mean that nothing is to be done about this?? Please notice that the file was modified within TopStyle and we still got the message. This appears to be only in Windows 2000. Is there any kind of a fix??
Thanks,
Chuck

Version 5.0.0.94 should fix this problem -- can you please confirm this?

Hello Support,

Hopefully, this is not more than you needed -but- here it is:

TopStyle Update from ver 5.0.0.93 to ver 5.0.0.94

1. It complained about not finding Chrome... which I do not have installed and do not plan to... yet.
We restarted and did not get the "error" message again.

2. It kept my Snippets... which, incidentally, we had brought over from our Homesite... Thank you.

3. Impressive updating... It kept, or remembered, the location of our WebSite files,
EVEN to the file we were last editing with the previous version... on another drive!!
Impressive... least it is to us.

4. Why??? In testing, we were adding in some verbiage describing one of our recent discoveries on the
Net. In it we were trying to say:
information on whether -or- Not
So what was the problem??? After we typed in the -or- TopStyle started 'Underlining" everything
typed. Now during entering this "complaint" it has "fixed" itself. Don't know whether we hit a
wrong key -or- what. Anywho, we will let you know IF it happens again... hopefully with some better
info on what caused it in the first place.

5. Now for the reason for this in the first place... "The document has been modified since you last saved it."
The text between the lines is an excerpt from our file, which can be found at:
http://www.trcompu.com/Computers/Softwa ... eComp.html
==============================================================================================
We found this one whilst looking for information on whether -or- we had to remove the previous
version before installing the new version. We read things that implied we did NOT have to remove
the previous one -so- we didn't and the Update Install went great!!<br>
Ok, we saved the file with the above change/addition. Now we are making this change to see
IF we get that file previously modified error.<br>
WE DID!! Darn
<a href="http://www.shouldiremoveit.com/TopStyle ... ogram.aspx" onclick="target='_blank';">Should I Remove it</a>??
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;Vellly Intelesting...<br>
==============================================================================================
Now then the portion that starts with "We found" was the first "change" made to the file in this session.
We saved it and then added the portion that starts with "Ok, we saved". The further comments state that
even though we NEVER exited TopStyle, -and- was in the same session, that it still gave out the warning
about the file being modifed since we last saved it. Once again, we DO NOT get that message on the FIRST
save -but- DO get it on every save thereafter during our session. IF we exit TopStyle and the re-enter and
then edit the SAME file, we can save it without a warning on the FIRST save but then get that warning again
on every save thereafter. Don't really think that it is supposed to work this way -and- it appears to be
only on Windows 2000. It works OK on our Windows 7. Haven't tried Windows XP... yet.

6. We got that underline problem again whilst explaing this. In the text, between the lines above, where we
have the "WE DID!!" followed by "DARN" after we typed in the two '!!' the underlining started again... and
again went away on its own.

Thanks for your replies,
Chuck

If this problem is isolated to Win2K (not reproducible on any other platform), then my advice is to turn OFF this message here: Options (F8) > General > Ask to reload files modified outside of TopStyle
