Google web fonts

Post by Davpar »

When I use Google web fonts, Validator 160 still warns me that "the following typeface is not recognized". Yet they all work in practice on my desktop, laptop, tablet and smartphone, the wc3.org/css-validator accepts them without question, and in case a browser doesn't recognize it I always provide orthodox alternatives. Can I get CSE Validator to ignore these warnings? Why are they even there in the latest edition?

Hello,

I may need to update the list of recognized fonts. I will check this for the next update. Which font is it that you are getting a message about?

I think the W3C validator will accept anything because it doesn't check, whereas CSE HTML Validator offers a hint if it thinks the font might be bad (often because it is misspelled). If you want to disable the check entirely so that it's more like the W3C checker, then simply right-click on the message (assuming you are viewing it in CSE HTML Validator's editor) and disable it form the "Message Options" submenu. If you disable it by using the "Message ID", then all messages of that type will be disabled. If you disable it using "Exact Text Match" then only that exact message will be disabled (using "exact text match" is an easy way to only ignore the warnings about specific font names that you know are good but that CSE HTML Validator currently doesn't recognize).

Hello,

I've updated CSE HTML Validator with the latest list of Google fonts. This will be in the next v16 update.

Just to confirm that the unrecognized font is in the update, can you tell me the name of the font that CSE HTML Validator didn't recognize?

Hi Rick,

You mean the fonts listed here?

http://kv5r.com/web-dev/the-new-font-family/

Is there one there that CSE HTML Validator doesn't recognize?

Yes, that's the link, but looks like you implemented all of them without me noticing.

Well, here's a belated "thanks Albert". :D
