Do you use a 32-bit OS or 64-bit OS?

Post by Albert Wiersch »

I'm wondering how many web developers still use a 32-bit Windows OS for web development? Are there any here? Or have you switched to a 64-bit OS as your primary machine for web development?

Perhaps a notebook computer is more likely to use a 32-bit OS, although I switched all my newer machines to 64-bit awhile ago, including my notebook computers.

I'm having a system with spezialized hardware inside, running a 32-bit OS. Fortunately, there is no need to run that system every so often. I'm doing all my work on 64-bit OSes, including web development. A VM gets started, when I have to use 16-bit software (doesn't happen so often also).

Both my desktop and laptop are Win 8.1 64 bit. I've used TopStyle on both in the past couple of weeks.

I actually asked quite some time ago if the would ever be a 64 bit TS, but never got a reply. Does your asking this question now mean you're possibly considering it?

You'd have to ask the TopStyle developer about TopStyle, but I have thought about investigating 64-bit more for CSS HTML Validator. I don't think there would be much practical benefit over 32-bit though, but 64-bit does interest me. :D

I'm getting closer to having a 64-bit version of CSS HTML Validator for testing. If anyone who has a paid license is interested in testing it out, then please contact me and I'll put you on my 64-bit BETA testing list (although there is no set date or guarantee for a 64-bit release at this time). I'm still just investigating the possibilities and benefits at this point.

Thanks!

My laptop (main computer) is 64-bit as is the computer in my Binghamton U office. The two computers in my SUNY Broome office are both 32-bit as well as my server at home. Put me on the list. If I'm too busy at that time I'll let you know.

Thanks Rachel. I've emailed you a link to test the latest 64-bit version of CSS HTML Validator.
