More about "full uninstall"

Post by Albert Wiersch »

When you uninstall CSS HTML Validator, it will generally ask you if you want to do a "full uninstall".

A full uninstall will remove additional files, folders, and registry settings. Normally these additional files and settings are kept to avoid losing any customizations or settings in case you reinstall any version of CSS HTML Validator.

We recommend answering 'Yes' and doing a "full uninstall" if any of these are true:
  1. You are completely removing ALL versions and editions of CSS HTML Validator from your computer and you won't be 1) upgrading to another version or edition (unless you want to start fresh), 2) keeping a previous version or edition, or 3) installing another version or edition (unless you want to start fresh).
  2. You want to "start fresh" with a clean install and reset all settings and files to their defaults.
  3. You are going to reinstall the program but want to install it into a new/different folder. In this case there are some registry settings that should be deleted so that they can be re-created when you run the re-installed program from the new folder location.
Otherwise it is usually best to keep the files and settings and not do a full uninstall.

Note that if you do a full uninstall:
  • All settings for all editions and versions of CSS HTML Validator will typically be lost, and this includes the license registration, so if you later re-install CSS HTML Validator then you will need to re-enter your license key into the program.
  • All versions and editions of CSS HTML Validator that are on your computer should be uninstalled because the full uninstall removes settings that are used by multiple versions and editions.
  • Additional files like tidyprofiles.xml, userinsertercfg.txt (and other inserter config files), batchreporttemplate.css, and other configuration files will be deleted. If you've made changes to these files (not common) then the changes will be lost unless you've backed-up the files.
