Link Report (tick_24Pro, cross_24Std, cross_24Lite)

This is where you can change the link checking options that affect CSE HTML Validator Pro's Batch Wizard. Note that the standard and lite editions do not include the Batch Wizard.

NOTE: Link checking must be enabled in the Tool to Use Page to generate link reports.

Link Report Options

Generate a Master Link Report - Check this box to generate a "Master Link Report" page that contains a list of all error links and a list of all warning links compiled from all the links that were checked. Link checking must be enabled for this option to have an effect. This option is enabled by default. (New v10.0122)

Always generate a link report - Check this box to always generate a link report for every target, including for documents without any errors or warnings even when you have asked not to generate reports for documents without any errors or warnings (in this case, a link report will be generated but not a message report). This option is not enabled by default.

Link each link in the link report to the link it represents - Check this box to "link the links" in the link report. This allows you to click on them. Clicking on the links will open the link in a new window. You can uncheck this option to reduce the size of the report and increase the speed at which the report is displayed in your browser. This option is enabled by default.

Include in the link report

Error links - Check this box to include bad (failed) links in the link report. This option is enabled by default.

Warning links - Check this box to include warning links in the link report. By default, redirected links are warning links. This option is enabled by default.

Not checked - Check this box to include a list of links that could not be checked in the link report. A link that cannot be checked is one that HTML Validator does not provide support for checking. This option is not enabled by default.

OK links - Check this box to include a list of OK (good) links in the link report. A good link is one that HTML Validator knows how to check and that has been verified to exist. This option is not enabled by default.

Include these additional columns in the link report

Order - Check this box to include an optional 'Order' column in the link report. This column shows the link order (the order in which the links occur in the document). This option is enabled by default. (New v11.0110)

Line:Char - Check this box to include an optional 'Line:Char' column in the link report. This column shows the line number and character location of the link. This option is enabled by default. (New v11.0104)

Bytes - Check this box to include an optional 'Bytes' column in the link report. This column will show the byte-size (for example, the content-length reported by an HTTP server) of the link if available. Dynamic pages (like ASP and PHP pages) will typically not have this information because the size of these types of pages is dynamic. This option is enabled by default. (New v9.00)

Response time - Check this box to include an optional 'Time (ms)' column in the link report. This column will show the measured time from when an HTTP/HTTPS request was made to when it was completed. This option is enabled by default. (New v16.00)

Content-Type - Check this box to include an optional 'Content-Type' column in the link report. This column will show the Content-type header of the link if available. This option is not enabled by default. (New v9.00)

NOTE: CSE HTML Validator makes "HEAD" requests to web servers in order to verify links. Some valid links may return error codes because the web server may behave differently or incorrectly for "HEAD" requests than for more common "GET" and "POST" requests. In many cases, HTML Validator will try a "GET" request if the "HEAD" request fails. When reporting back, HTML Validator reports the error and status code that is returned by the web server. Therefore, if HTML Validator reports an error for a valid link, then it is probably because the web server is reporting the error and not because of a bug in HTML Validator.

NOTE: The Batch Wizard cannot be stopped while checking links. If you try to stop processing during a link check, then you will have to wait for the Batch Wizard to finish the link check before stopping.
